Tough on Tobbaco frontman Sidd Coutto who is due to launch his solo album next month, recently sung for the Shahrukh Khan-starrer Ra.One (trailer here). Coutto sings the song ‘Right By Your Side’. Vishal-Shekhar, who take music director credits on the film, have also used Pakistani singer Shafqat Amanat Ali and Indian vocalist Nandini Srikar on the OST. The biggest name on the soundtrack however is US hip-hop artist, and noted gig-canceller, Akon.
Sidd Coutto’s Bollywood links don’t stop there. He stars in a minor role in upcoming film Soundtrack (deets here), alongside Ankur & The Ghalat Family frontman Ankur Tewari; the music for which has been composed by electronica duo Midival Punditz and American musician, producer and collaborator Karsh Kale.
Indie scene links with Bollywood aren’t really a rarity nowadays. After Monica Dogra’s stint as an actor in Dhobi Ghat and as a playback singer in Break Ke Baad, to Raghu Dixit turning music director for Y Films’ Mujhse Fraaandship Karoge indie musicians have embraced Bollywood opportunities more than willingly. Suman Sridhar of Sridhar/Thayil sang for two songs in Bejoy Nambiar’s Shaitan (video for Khoya Khoya Chand here), which also featured a track by Bhayanak Maut.
Listen to Sidd Coutto’s track ‘Right By Your Side’ below, which is pretty much a run-of-the-mill pop-rock track off a V+S OST.
